Sleeping Bear Inn is in the historic village of Glen Haven in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Located across from Glen Haven Beach on Lake Michigan, you can enjoy the beautiful views across Sleeping Bear Bay, the Manitou Passage, and the North and South Manitou Islands.
Glen Haven is one of the best-surviving examples of a nineteenth-century frontier cord-wood station/steamboat stop on the Great Lakes. Designated as a historic district in the National Register of Historic Places, the well-preserved northern Michigan village on the Leelanau Peninsula includes good examples of vernacular architecture dating back to the mid-nineteenth century. The village is best known for its association with D.H. Day who owned the company town from 1881 until he died in 1928. The thirteen-acre Glen Haven Village Historic District is located within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
Built in 1866, this B&B near Glen Arbor, MI served as a frontier hotel providing shelter to business travelers and renting rooms to local workers. D.H. Day lived at Sleeping Bear Inn when he first arrived in Glen Haven and purchased the property in 1881.
